It's stunning because it's a James Cameron movie. The world-building, action, special effects, and camerawork were all top-notch. However, Avatar: The Way of Water fails in the story and character development categories, much like its predecessor. In actuality, The Way of Water and The First Avatar: The Way of Water have nearly identical plots. A family of forest Navi learns to be an ocean Navi and then battles Stephen Lang, as opposed to humans learning to be Navi and battling Stephen Lang. With the added benefit of being judged against the original, all the positives and negatives from the previous film are present in this one. Like the previous Avatar: The Way of Water, it truly is a visual feast and a special effects masterpiece, but that is all it is.
